"wanna play?", they said,
it was not what she thought,
she found herself
surrounded by illusions,
a game of charades
in chaos,
no one playing by the rules,
moves made with insincerity,
at times even cruelly,
resulting in lost trust,
shattered idealism,
a questioning of self.

no longer the players' pawn,
she lifts her arm,
sweeps it across the board,
their markers scattering
in all directions,
to put an end to the game.

Hi Kris,

Looks like I get to be first. This brings back some long ago yet pretty fond memories. I'm sure I have at some time been your girl, probably most of us have   The memories it really brings back are of my 2 sons, a year apart in age. Your 2nd stanza reminds me of how they liked to play chess. I'm not sure they ever really completed a game against each other though. It seemed that they board always got bumped somehow and pieces scattered when one of them would get far enough behind.

Thanks for the memories,
Pete

Kris:

I liked this poem.  It reminds me of some reading I did years back about self-actualization ... where understanding and dispelling illusion is given great value but, ironically, does not bring the happiness or contentment you would think it would.

Hope to see that heart warming up again soon.

Jim

Hi not so warm, though you sound a little
hot to me. Liked your poem hated your loss
of innocence, but soon enough you learn the
givers from the takers. Look forward to your next posting.
