Second Time Around

Do you remember playing hopscotch,
skipping lines traced with chalk.
Running string between two tin cans,
just to see if you could talk.

Spending hours at the local pond,
skipping stones or finding frogs.
Toasting marshmallows over the campfire flame,
watermelon and foot long dogs.

Drinking kool-aid, eating icecream cones,
telling ghost stories in the dark.
Playing on the slides and the monkey bars,
with friends at the neighbourhood park.

Joining in a game of simon says,
or playing one...two...three redlight.
Waiting all day for a wind to blow,
so you could fly your homemade kite.

Playing jumping jacks and pick-up sticks,
rolling marbles to win the pot.
Eating candyfloss at the local fair,
Saturday trips to the candyshop.

Remember those snowy winter days,
iceskating on the frozen pond.
Tobogganing down the biggest hill,
till the daylight was almost gone.

Pretending your in Alaska,
building igloos with your friends.
Having super snowball fights,
not wanting the day to end.

When biking to another country,
meant going around the block.
Flying all the way to another planet,
by climbing in a cardboard box.

Sailing aross the ocean blue,
battling pirates along the way,
Docking your raft in a foreign port,
making plans for another day.

A child's imagination,
has no limits and no bounds.
You can watch it through another's eyes,
your second time around.

Share your childhood memories,
help create your child's world.
Where they can escape and just have fun,
with a thought or a funny word.

Show your children the secret way,
to travel to that special land.
With each child, you can make the trip,
over and over again.

Now the words may not be fancy,
but they weigh strong if the truth be told.
As long as you have an imagination,
in your heart you'll never grow old.< !signature-->

Never underestimate the Power of Purpose.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the 'Present'

Saturday trips to the candyshop

Just a suggestion. Each person has a special child hood memory.
I enjoyed sharing yours. I made me want to get out my Muckluks and go snow stomping.
