If you think that I can be persuaded
that a great injustice has been done
then you are sadly disillusioned...
Who told you that you could not pray in schools?
Or at school functions?
I , nor any other, would interrupt
your silent concourse with your God.
But that is not the point here,
it has no bearing on the issue,
you do not care to silently converse,
for who can be impressed
by what they do not hear?

Yes, I saw you standing at the flag pole
praying your rather windy prayer
about the virtues of education
and of how you hoped
that all here would learn well...
And as you passed the threshold of the school,
I saw you taunt another about
something they had no control over,
I watched you disrupt the learning
of those in close proximity to your game,
and I saw a strong proponent for long discourses
that were as vaporous as the air.

You think that I am wrong because
I refuse to say your prayer in unison, aloud?
I sense you are a hypocrite who knows nothing
of silent meditation
but cares only for the multitudes of molecules
that are sent reeling by the vocal exhortations
that issue thoughtlessly from your mouth
not recollected when you yourself act
as you earnestly begged others not to.
I hear others like you and see both sides of their face,
they who’ve totally forgotten
what a private conversation can achieve.

 Do I contradict myself?
Very well then . . . . I contradict myself;
I am large . . . . I contain multitudes.

Hi Jana
I believe in private and silent conversation but I fear I'm speaking with some souls which can't understand it or take it. So I turn away. It's difficult.

Sincerely

WOW!! I think you have some definite feelings on this subject!!!  I have also thought before that I don't like to be told which prayers to say at which time.  Although I attend a traditional church, I feel free to say my own prayers, my own way.  I usually just tune everything else out, so maybe I'm missing the bigger picture you are portraying here.  Good rant!!
