Stratford on Avon

the hush pervaded the room
almost as if the timbers and framing
were in awe of their importance
the importance of being the room
that once held a great man

the window gleamed, fresh washed
as the tulips beyond the panes
swayed in the spring breezes
'neath an ancient tree
riddled with the far off gaze of a
poet whose heart was not his own
a poet whose heart poured from him
in hasty scribbles and etchings

near this window (I thought)
near these walls
upon this very seat
sat the man who penned
many a sonnet
and many a passioned tale
and I stood
a mere infant of a poet
and wondered at my boldness
upon entering the sanctum
of Shakespeare

"Our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything."
--William Shakespeare

I have no critique to give....this was pure and simple, a wonderful homage to the Bard, evoking images of the Globe.

Ah laks it.

AH! I was there also, felt it...not just with my hands but with my soul....it's a lovely house..smaller than I would have expected...and to be there was worth the cost of the trip. Your poem conveys what mere ordinary words cannot. Thank you for taking me back to a day I will always remember....

Anyone want to take a trip there again with me!! Next Spring?

I'd love to be there - no question... I saw Longfellow's house - that was awesome, but no comparison...

Wonderfully descriptive piece of work, X-Angel. Being there must have been quite evoked some powerful feelings, being a fan of Shakespeare, some of which you describe.
Excellent word choices and great imagery.
