Heard this guy
Talking
Talking about machines
Robots
Technology
Metals
Artificial
Intelligence

He said
We will eventually
Lose
The battle
With machines
It’s the next evolutionary
Step

And I thought
He was right
Only we could
Forget
We were
Human

Oh ya!!  The poems builds slowly and then the last stanza is spectacular.  Love it.

Yes only we can forget that we are human

i like the last stanza.  people are always saying things about how machines will take over, but i don't really think it can happen, at least not in our lifetimes.  this is great though.  the short lines really add to the poem.

Patch,
Very enjoyable. I really liked the ending. A thought just occured to me though. Evolution (or God) created two drives in us -- to survive and reproduce (and yes they are circumvented at times). One wonders if AI is possible without those drives coming first. At the moment, my understanding of AI development is that intelligence will bring forth consciousness but perhaps it's the other way around. You need to install those drives to create consciousness and if that happens you probably have the same problems as humans (or any animal) does. Besides, does anybody really want machines who won't do our bidding?

I could be completely off my rocker here because I know so little about what's happening right now. Maybe someone who knows more could enlighten me?

okie, i get to be the dumb one here---what has the line"only we could forget we were human" got to do with the man-machine dilemma?does your line mean that we will only lose the race to machinery if we are too overly dependent on machines abd lose our unique characteristics as humans???am i remotely right???do enlighten okie")

other than that,i thought your poem was short and sweet---the kind of easy-flow poems that i like and very appropriate for the occasion---kinda of make people reflect on life, themselves, etc in this 21st century...")

ciao and take care

Excellent poem, the single lines added emphasis. The last line was the clincher.

AI however is tricky. A lot of people don't take it far enough, to it's conclusion however.
But Brad is right, taken all the way AI becomes sentience. An with sentience come the drives for self preservation and procreation.

At that point is it artficial or natural? If still artificial, then aren't we ourselves artificial in a sense?

We ourselves are an AI experiment. I wonder if when God created us, did he have the same thoughts? Were we purposely flawed, to prevent us from becoming more, or at least equal, than our creator? Will we do the same?

Or will being flawed ourselves, prevent us from being able to insert the inherant flaws into our creations? Interesting isn't it?

Cap.

Patch:

Good poem and excellent ending.  The twist at the end is a very well executed reminder that this poem is not about Artificial Intelligence so much as it is a reminder that "natural" intelligence is in danger of becoming a scarce resource.

Well done.  I enjoyed this.
