Tea Party

A demitasse of commiseration
perched expectantly on saucer
translucently brittle
all attentiveness
and solicitude

dainty teacakes of devotion
resting on china, delicately flowered
sympathy rolled in powdered sugar
tender-warmed
and encouraging

crust-less white triangles of woe-telling
sandwich the thinly sliced interest
gossip nibbled hungrily
gauche
and glaring

lemon-delicate crumbs of virtue
sprinkle the table-clothed surface
vestiges of shared secrets
revealed
and digested

lacy napkin folded neatly
beside the plate
signals a end
to confidences

Pat,

I missed this  . This is the type of poetry I find hard to comment about in detail.  All I can say is that I liked it, I understood it, it has an authentic genteel air about it of the sort you find in a pretentious English country house hotel afternoon tea lounge.  Have you been there?

Also I was glad to be caught out by the word "demitasse" ... I had to resort to Websters.

Thank you smile  .

Philip

Aaaah!  This one is priceless. I felt as if
I was there myself, nibbling the  r e a l
cookies, gingerly drinking the  r a r e
oriental tea.  Being a gentleman, though,
I excused myself when the sugarless cookies
were presented. I must admit I did read the poem to the end, however, to feed my male imagination.
