love- the horrible black shroud
i wore for too long
hoping to impress and be best-dressed
with every profane movement
of his vile unholy hand
he gradually tattered the edges
he didn't care when i said to stop
because he would never have to wear it
cast away with a thousand other failures
the shroud found a home in my floor
i thought of wearing it for a short while
before giving in to neglect
then i met you, yet i never thought
to check upon its sorry sight
but when i announced that i loved you
i went home and saw it still laying there
though within its dark stitches
golden threads of your heart
had been woven ever so delicately
making love a beautiful thing

i have some qualms for writing this, but i need to write some and get some inspiration in order to recover from some horrible writers block.

roxane,
I thought the religious allusions at the beginning of the poem to be a bit unsettling (felt like the old hyperbole monster was rearing its ugly head) but the ending brings everyhing together. Very much enjoyed the second part of this poem.

Thanks,
Brad

I must applaud this one, it's a fine piece. I love the symbolism of love being a shroud...nicely done!
