Castle in the Sky
By Paul Wilson

I hear your tears falling softly
How lonesome they sound
Darkness covers the room
No solace to be found

Twilight held at bay
Moon and sun collide
Sharing sky for a brief time
As the maiden wipes tears she cried

Every day the same
The sun never shines in her world
The moon never illuminates the stars
She waits in twilight arms unfurled

A gentle tap on bedroom door
Awakens her from slumbers hold
Who is it she ask …no one answers
Go away intruder is told

Time stands still in her world
No one visits her we’re told
Town folks talk about her
Alone since she was sixteen years old

She tends flowers that never bloom
Holding twilight at bay
Tomorrow brings hope once more
That this world takes her away

Birds singing in the courtyard
Hoping the sun will shine
Eerie fog blankets the sky
Covering her make believe shrine

She waits alone in her castle in the sky
Holding twilight at bay
Hoping her lover from above returns
To her this twilight day

Beautifully sad! This could set the scene for a classic novel.  It reminds me of one I've read, but I can't think of the title at the moment.

"I know this love will tear me to pieces
I know his hands will dig up my secrets"

I feel badly for the woman, who waits.  Your poems are always so beautiful, sometimes bittersweet but the rhyme is lovely....thank you for sharing

That may be the best use of any challenge phrase I've ever given Paul.  Remarkable, beautiful expression here.

So glad to see you answer the phrases I gave you.  Even happier with where your poetic mind took them.

Will come up with some more for you.
