Magician Tricks

The flesh is weak, the spirit strong.
Still you can't help feel something's wrong.
You close your eyes but not to sleep,
But in prayer none will see you weep.
You never thought it possible
By manmade or God-given rule,
That darkness could be brought to fade
With simplicity of choice made.

The deck been stacked, the cards laid out
Mind searches for reasons to doubt
That he will know just what you choose—
That no matter the choice, you lose.
You opt to pick one anyway,
Full feign of surprise on display,
Try to tell yourself you weren’t taken,
But deep down can’t help feel forsaken.

Magician tricks, they fool the eyes,
Some stand amazed, believe the lies.
Some vow again never to trust,
But none slip by, no, look they must!
Once done, you’re easily dismissed,
Far more people, many more tricks.
The crowd has to be kept amused.
Just no longer you—you’re excused!

…If on stage, still within the light,
Trying to puzzle out a sleight
You never will have time to prove,
Don’t be surprised when forced to move.
Oh, you’ll hear the claps as you leave,
Not sure what the crowd must believe.
It’s there reality sets in,
You’re alone in the dark, again.

Many twists of wisdom in there Michael the human mind goes through many stages of decisions doesn't it.?
Some stages of acceptance some stages of denial all the while we're trying to put it all together in some sort of a comfort zone. I really enjoy your work keep it up!

Michael, a lot of bitterness and disappointment in this piece. An excellent write, but please don't miss the forest for the trees. Write on!

Indeed Eric, life brings us many stages and many decisions within each one.  Occasionally I just have to wonder if my choices are actually capable of making any difference at all on the outcome.  Sure doesn't seem that way sometimes.  Thank you for you kind words.

John, got to admit I've had more than my share of trees fall on me but alas, you're right.  I may be a bit narrow-minded in my views.  Will try to remedy that.
