The Eyes

I stare into the mirror.
No fire, and no furor.
The graceless benediction
A face for my affliction.

I wonder where they went?
Dreams I so aptly spent.
Dry eyes carving out years
On lies, starving for tears.

The good I’ve laid to waste,
If only for a taste…
Praying I would not falter
Laying love unto the altar.

Feel shadow creep upon
Me with coming of dawn.
Set pace, lagging behind.
A face I've yet to find.

It’s all there, I suppose,
On eyes that just won’t close.
Investment for tomorrow,
Or testament to sorrow?

I've been told that the eyes are the window to the soul. Maybe you, like myself, should hang out a vacancy sign. I enjoyed the write, is not the pain which birthed it. Write on!

From the last two lines I'm getting a hint of thoughts on starting over with someone else.  Maybe I'm missing something or maybe I'm projecting. Who knows. If that is the thought,my question is would we want to know in advance whether it would all work out? Or do we, without knowing, enjoy the terrifying chance of seeing the ride to its unknowable conclusion?

I know his hands will dig up my secrets"

Jenn, starting over wasn't what I was really feeling when I wrote this.  Feel I've been too damaged to be good for anyone anymore.  My investment for tomorrow being of the shutting myself in, away from the world variety.

I leave to walk ahead, only to be lost
Even though I cannot see the end, I will leave on a journey at range, i think its alright if i disappear

Michael...Enjoyed the mystery in this piece.
If not for your reply to Jenn about her reply I would have thought the same thing as her.
Food for thought my friend

Paul, you say "never say never" and my mind instantly thinks, "He's right, it's not worth the effort."

Yeah, I'm that jaded.
