Streets of Fire
By Paul Wilson

Stumbling thru the darkness
The situation was dire
The streets all ablaze
The world I knew was on fire

People running around in fear
Sirens begin to blare
Flames getting closer and closer
Hysteria fills the night air

Like a scene from a movie
People wait for the hero to appear
No one comes to save the day
This is not a movie premiere

People lying in the streets
Victims of the nights rage
Store windows broken
Looters on a rampage

Police no longer have the upper hand
They retreat afraid of dying
Streets filled with thousands
Wanting justice for the dying

Violence explodes in other cities and towns
Night comes… protest start again
More will die for the cause
Mothers and fathers left with the pain

Violence and looting not the answer
We must learn from our past
Smoke and blood fill the streets
Headlines on another newscast

Will the hatred ever stop?
The rioting must cease
If we are to ever live in peace
Or will the killing increase?

Hate is not the answer we need, but that's all we get with mainstream media, social media, and it's what our children are taught in schools.

If victimality is what you choose to embrace, how does answering it with violence and hate make you any better?  Everyone is looking for reasons to disparage and tear down, when we all need to be looking for constructive and possibly even humane ways to better ourselves as a species.  Course I am sure there are 1000 reasons why I am a terrorist for having such thoughts these days.  May God bless all who would condemn me anyway.

Peace to you, Paul.  I feel your pain on a most sincere level.

Michael...Thanks so much for reading and taking a stand as I have done in this poem.
The world is going to hell in a hand basket and the ones that are calling for justice are the ones filling the basket with their violence and rioting. Thanks my friend be safe take care...Paul
