The Reels

I look back on the reels of life—
The now well worn ideals of strife…
How I was taught to be a man,
‘Been failing that long as I can
Recall through jaded sentiment,
The easy come… and where it went.
The years beat out in grinding toil,
Offering soul back to the soil.

I find them odd, the moments spent
Chasings the whims of merriment.
So few and far between, they seem
To mock a man who dared to dream.
Flickers met with headshakes and sighs.
Old projector protecting lies!
I watch memorized memory
In wish of change that cannot be.

I mumble the lines, word for word,
That no one’s ever truly heard,
Or at least cared to listen to.
‘Recall offering them to you.
That look in eye, so far away,
Yeah, I was just a child at play.
I recall the heart beating still,
The man you left, bereft of will.

But reels, they spun on the hope fled.
The vision lost, the time, it bled.
Looked to the raw skin of each hand,
Building proud my castles of sand.
Closer each time, to taunt the waves
I always knew would be their graves.
None ever hurting quite as true
As the price paid for loving you.

A lone shadow, a dusty road.
Emptying reel, a heavy load.
It seems quite eccentric to see
The edges have closed in on me.
Might have been better to go blind
Than watch, in awe, marred film of mind.
The framework of a life misspent,
The easy come…and where it went.

Michael...You sure weave a web of pain here in this masterpiece. It leaves me wanting more but most of your poems do that to me.
Like I said awhile back about one of your poems you lift the vail a little bit letting us peek inside that life of yours but never enough to see the complete man you are.
Enjoyed very much my friend...Paul

~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~

rofl.  As much as I am sure my words would be considered quite dangerous if not taken in moderation, Paul, I would venture to say it is probably twice as much so for thoughts in this head that lead to them.

Excess is not always a good thing.

glad you enjoy what i do show you tho.
