Don’t Make us Beg

Fair to middlin' of nowhere

So sweet you can be
as you pursue us.
Attention is not lacking.
Affection is abundant.
Flowers appear
on occasion.
And we believe
that is who you are.
So we entrust you
with our hearts
and intentions of forever.
But as is often the case
with those affections
after the pursued
is possessed,
they fall by the wayside
of been there done that,
game over.
How foolish an assumption
that there would be less
of a need ever.
That somehow your love
would be less in demand
to the heart that holds you.
Don’t make us beg
for what belongs to us.
It creates disappointment
and doubt
that you ever truly
loved us at all.
