Spectre

Of polished deed, of relished stone,
The things in life I most bemoan:
A peaceful mob inciting violence.
A heartfelt lie told in cold silence.
A full moon tugging on the string
Of anxiety, gifting wing
The rage and angst that lies within—
The peppered darkness of my sin.

The hurt in life you realize
Can only be seen through your eyes.
The whispered lies of dream and chance
That never reach deliverance.
The mournful quest become of this
That but lands you in the abyss,
Or gifts you to some dreadful climb
That purely serves to eat up time.

Now, stood upon that mountaintop,
I look down to the deadly drop;
Heart in full face and rapid mode
Within my chest, set to explode.
To think that I have come this far,
Chasing glow of some falling star,
To find but dissipating light
Of hope withering with lost sight.

Yet ‘leap to touch the soulless gleam
That presides over death and dream—
To wake the demon in this layer
Of humanity’s stolen prayer.
A shine in darkness brighter than
All the tangibles born of man.
The only promise left to keep,
Come of a day we all shall weep.

And I wage this war likely won
Before wax wings greet morning sun.
Yet I, who fly for the wrong side,
By all aspects of Fate denied,
Shall cross over, a shadow drawn
By memory which yet lives on.
A spectre, denied human form,
Become the lightning of the storm.

The scourge of darkness, shine of hope—
Submission of the will to cope;
Who hides in shadow, lies in wait—
Still tries to bind the hands of Fate.
A broken man, a broken need—
A tireless emotion to feed.
A vanity for which Envy sings:
The soul that flies on, without wings.

I'm sure this wasn't the point,  but all I can think about after reading this are falling stars and how dangerous it is to follow.  Aren't they meant to crash? Pardon me tonight.  I think the fog in my brain is as thick as the fog outside right now.

I know his hands will dig up my secrets"
