Sunrise

Velvet darkness fills a silent sky
Only the hoot of an owl is heard
Stars glisten filling the dark expanse
The full moon baths the earth with soft light

There on the far horizon we see
A thin line of light glowing brightly
Growing by the second tinged in red
Stars receding as it grows in strength

Birds are singing greeting a new day
Pinks and reds blend creating beauty
Awe reflects what eye and heart can see
Joy generates deep feelings of peace

Closing my eyes all is taken in
Tilting my head in silent prayer
Breathing deeply of fresh bright air
Refreshing both the body and soul

Hope fills the soul with new beginning
A day my heart can see His glory
Taking in all of God’s creation
Being grateful this mornings’ sunrise

...and there was light.

One of the few perks of getting up at 4:00 every morning is that I do get to see a lot of sunrises, some of them extravagant and completely breathtaking.  A very small window of time that most people miss, but the sun is very busy, and is always rising somewhere for those who seek it, and to amaze those who are maybe discovering that daily, brief pausing of the world for the first time.

This was a beautiful write, Karen.

What a beautiful picture you have painted with your words. I closed my eyes and could see it all so clearly. You are a wonderful wordsmith, I look forward to reading more from you.

I think, in many ways, one of the most beautiful sunrises I ever saw was when I was in Yokosuska, Japan, from the flight deck of the USS Hornet, with the gulls and Sea Eagles flying just off the end of the flight deck.

At least, beautiful enough that it's stuck with me since the early 1960's.

enjoyed . . .

Beautiful! I love these outside moments.  I used to wonder why my Dad would get up before dawn and sit outside with his coffee. It took me years to do it and realize why. You've painted a picture I want to be in. *sigh*
