Journey through Time
By Paul Wilson

Flame of candle shielded by hand
Illuminates pathway thru the dark
Walking down well-worn path
On this journey I embark

Stars light up night sky
As Harvest moon gives off orange glow
Shining moonbeams on a clearing up ahead
My mind re-lives dreams of long ago

Flame of candle that guided me to this place
Suddenly goes dim as Autumn wind begins to blow
I turn to leave a voice says don’t go
Where it came from I don’t know

Be not afraid… come closer the voice says
As I stumble in the dark
Who are you I ask quite timid
I am from the future was her remark

You are on a journey she says
I am here to help and guide you
This night the moon and stars
Will share their secrets with you

Before we begin this journey
You must clear your mind
Of all things from your past
And all things that bind

Come…sit with me awhile she says
As the clearing is bathed in purple light
Close your eyes… rest your head
Before we take flight this night

When I awoke she was there
To comfort me and take me by the hand
Stars and Moon marked our path
Through the heavens to a distant land

I got to visit and talk with
All my relatives from another time
One by one they welcomed me
As we travelled through space and time

Back to the 1700’s
Our destination to another world so vast
Stopping in a foreign land
Greeted by relatives from the past

They told me of struggles and hardships
Endured through the years
Battles fought and won
With their blood, sweat and tears

Onward we travelled to the 1800’s
So much has changed over the years
Wild West and gold rush the big news
Iron horse and telegraph greeted the pioneers

Spent some time with relatives
Some farmers some ranchers some outlaws
Stories they shared with me made me wonder
I guess we all have our flaws

Spent time in the South with the blue and gray
Just to spend time with my great great grandfather
The stories he told me I’ll never forget
Especially those about my fathers father

Into the 1900’s we set our sights
I knew my journey was about to end
Through time and space we traversed
Back to the clearing we did descend

The year 2020 pulled us back to the present
Time spent with the past I’ll never forget
Relatives I met and places I’ve seen
Hopefully are not over yet

I hope one day my children’s children
Will travel through time and space
Just to visit me and relive history all over again
To walk in my footsteps and visit those in a different place

Sky...You had very much to do with me writing this, you planted the seed with your poem about your ancestors. All I did was help it grow. Thank you so much for the idea.
This is the first positive poem I've written in over 8 months. Thanks again dear lady. I hope one day I can return the favor...Paul

You creative side is beautiful when stoked Paul.  I knew you had this in you, and glad to see it coming to the fore once again.  It’s a beautiful thing to witness how other poets work can inspire us as poets ourselves.

A very enjoyable weave, sir.

Michael...Thank you so much for your positive reply. I think I could have put a more personal touch ( relationship) to my ancestors in this, but then that gives me an idea for my next Journey Through Time. I am reminded of a saying, goes something like this " A man is not an island by himself and cannot stand alone"
we must be receptive to the help of others and never. never close the door to our faith and beliefs. Thanks my friend for allowing me to visit you from time to time via e mail and telepathically...Paul

This one gave me chills. Not in a bad way. It feels magical, and reminds me of time travel movie scenes.

Also, some of my most beautiful memories happened under a harvest moon. Your mention of it makes me smile with calm.

"How much is real? So much to question
An epidemic of the mannequins
Contaminating everything"
