Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2020-08-09 01:50 PM

As a child, I was taught in Church
that all people were equal.
“He so loved the world…”
As a student, I learned in school
that not all people were treated equal.
There, but by the Grace of God, go I.
As a young adult, I decided
that people
don’t pick the skin they are in.
That as much as the Bible
is the letter of the Christian law,
Jesus is the intent.
As a young adult, I discovered
that all Faiths,
from the ancient indigenous
to current times,
are fundamentally the same
however different their
practices may be.
As Christians,
I believe we are called to
love them all
and let God sort them out.
As I have grown older,
and wiser,
my contemplation of
the Omnipotent
has deepened.
I’ve concluded
that Sacred things,
that are confined
and defined within Religion,
are kept
farther from the truth.

Lori...A agree with your way of thinking. If God wanted all of us to be the same skin color then we would be. We should all live by the golden rule " Treat others as we want to be treated"
Since when does skin color dictate how we treat a person?

Thanks for sharing...Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the read and commenting. I must confess bigotry disgusts me to the point of spitting nails. Hard to just pray for God to sort the biggots out. ~L

BRAVO...wonderfully put...if you truly follow the teachings of Christ than color of skin or religious preference is not for us to judge...each to his own and do not be the one to cast the first stone...I love the truth and power of this poem...thank you

This is a completely sound message, Lori…even comes off as a plea almost in its sincerity.

“That as much as the Bible
is the letter of the Christian law,
Jesus is the intent.”

“As Christians,
I believe we are called to
love them all”

For other religions, we are called to “love them all”.  “1 John 4:21; "And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother." ... Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Don’t see enough of that in the world these days.  It seems to me messages like this get lost in the fine print, while everyone is pointing out how their neighbors should act, they forget how they themselves are acting.
