Lonely Streets of Life
By Paul Wilson

I walk alone beneath glowing street lights
No shadow do I cast
Lonely life …lonely road travelled by me
Night deathly quiet… moon rising fast

Street vendors selling their wares
Neon lights pointing the way
Red light district across the tracks
Get what you need… a fantasy buffet

City without a soul
People without a heart
Visitors from another time
Tomorrow they will all depart

I will remain here for all eternity
Walking beneath street lights
No shadow do I cast
Waiting for my last rites

Night and day all the same
No perception of time
Lonely life…lonely road
I’ve travelled time after time

Paying for the wrong i’ve done
Never meaning to hurt anyone
The past has a hold on my soul
Oh how I pray it could be un-done

I try to leave …no way out
This lonely life I live holds me tight
No hope no dreams to cherish
No matter how hard I fight

Walking these lonely streets
No shadow do I cast
Alone with my pain
Maybe tomorrow will be my last

"Night deathly quiet...moon rising fast"..
that line just struck me, the atmosphere so
touching in that place we've all traveled.

Well done Poet Paul!

I have never quite understood how quickly time passes when we are enjoying ourselves, and how slow it can drag on when we are in a state similar to the one you have been in, Paul.  I know this because what you describe here is the story of my life for the most part...and it feels to me like I have lived a thousand lifetimes.  I do not fear death, nor where it will take me...maybe that alone is the reason he procrastinates?

You are not alone, Paul, even though we may both walk alone all hours of the day.

Michael...You have such an uncanny way of reading my mind and poetry. Just so you know we were both the reason for this poem. I know there will be a reward for both of us when we no longer walk alone.
Thanks so much for taking time to read and reply. Stay strong my friend...Paul
