Ghosts

We walk along the shadow seeking day,
Only a mile or two from Heaven’s throne.
The twilight concourse lights for us the way,
And yet we always make our way alone.

The dragon of the night with silent wing,
Princess in white whose soul set mine aflame.
The love who taught me that Darkness can sing,
But never to call demons by their name.

I lift my eyes from these pages I’ve stained.
To squint up to the sky at what I’ve lost—
Glory the very destiny profaned,
From ashes where I alone pay the cost…

…And in my saddest dreams of truth befriend
The loves in life I’ve given cause to end.

Michael,
Your writings are so strong in their sadness that I'm begging to feel like you are writing 1,000 and 1 ways to break my heart.  ~L

Michael...All I can say is WOW. I'm sure I will come back to this later and just soak up all the feelings you offer in this poem. Thanks for sharing...Paul

There is sadness in this, and it strikes up sighs.

Ashes. Gather them, make peace with them, then scatter them or they will choke you.

There are many beautiful lines here, and as always I stand in complete respect of your talent for rhythm. For structure.  Maybe standing isn't the proper thing to do? Oh well! Everyone knows I've never been proper.

Lovely

Lori, I truly wish I could write other than I do at times.  It’s not something I question as possible anymore, though.  Just a following of the soul, wherever it may go.

Paul, glad you liked this one.  Some words spoken to me by one I hold close led me to a walk through the archives, and the history in these pages.  I put it in the form of a traditional sonnet, though I have no idea if the meter is good.  Maybe you could let me know?

Jenn, I’ve grown quite good at the scattering part, and the walking away.  Looks backward rarely take me back, yet a peak at my own words can do serious damage if I let it.  You’re right…the ashes only choke if you try to swallow them.  So far as what is proper, and what is not?  I know I can count on you to give me a right proper example on all that is not proper.  Wouldn’t have it any other way.
