To be purposely cliche,
There are tricks to the trade
of enhancing beauty.
Start with the hair
and pile all strands into an artful coif
or burn them!
Burn them all at 500 degrees
until they submit to the shape
commanded.
You become necromancer
leading an army of whispy dead
multi toned locks.
These will serve you well.

Now apply the first layer
of new face.
Spread it then pummel into the pores
until scar of human
coloring is hidden
and you connect with your inner doll.
Prime like a painter dressing canvases.
Tap and pat (preferably with brushes)
until the color screams
louder than life filled shadows
that dare sit close to eyes.
Make sure they don't see
the lines that bend knowledge
toward your age.

Half smile
to remember the sculpt of cheeks
or suck the inner mouth
between your teeth
to really find them
and paint temporarily gaunt area
using whatever technique the internet
says best fits your age
these days.
Yes.
There.
Attack yourself with
supposed natural earthy rouge.
How could anyone not be fooled now?

Sketch your own eyebrows and fill
until you closely resemble Frieda Kahlo
or choose thin lines
until you resemble
someone with a constant
questioning arched expression.
Surely you are an artist now!

Look at your lips!
Do you have enough of them?
Are they evenly plump?
Will they pop from your face
in pouty wide eyed selfies?
No?
Take this pen.
Draw your own.
They even make stencils now.
No, not the crafty alphabet ones!
(Or you could save yourself some time
and stamp the letter, "B"
for "Beautiful")
Carefully color these in
with the color your soul screams in.
(I am a slave to reds)
They are acceptably luscious now
until kissing comes in
to smash and smear.
Heat from your belly
will climb simultaneously
In all directions
and take you down.
This is an acceptable destruction,
but you will look like a naughty girl
who ate kool aid powder
mixed with sugar
by the handful.
(I did that once.
My lips were enough then
gathered in puffy pucker.)

Follow all of the steps
or they will all judge your stray eyebrow hair
or your thin top lip!
The comments on your deepset eyes
and how you aren't allowed to smoke them
will come whether you asked or not!

It's fine to prime,
primp,
paint and draw!
Do it for they,
for she,
for him!
Just stay inside the real
in the underneath
where your beautiful soul
has lips of its own.

Temptress,
You are such a delight to read! You even left a nugget of a moral at the end of your story.

I just want you to know I got sassed all day cause they caught me smiling at work  (at your naughty girl
who ate kool aid powder
mixed with sugar
by the handful comment). Anyway, me and smiling don't happen very often so everyone wanted to know what was up and I had to show em my phone and your poem...  you can bet how that went over on a construction site.

Was very glad to see the post though you are in my dog house for it!!!

Also loved your "Attack yourself with
supposed natural earthy rouge.
How could anyone not be fooled now?" Line.  Pure classic that was!

Nice to see this side of you.

As always, drawn in when I saw you had posted something.  And what a something it was . . . totally unexpected!

But the real beauty, the real beauty was in the photo you posted along with it...

And. . . what does the soul say?

Wonderful work. . . it's been too long for me to read your words here . . .

Temptress - Most enjoyed your wonderful "Instruction Manual on primp, prime and pommel your way to Beauty". It was informational, creative and downright fun to read. Can't wait for Book II. Namyh

Lori,
Thank you. Most of the time my poetry has its own feet and I follow.  This one was an attempt to laugh at what seems to be such a serious subject these days. The upside to the female obsession with looking camera ready all of the time is that girls are actually learning good skin care routines along with it. I'm not sure they were when I was younger. Wash your face and apply stuff to the face in an upward motion was about it I think.  Oh, and I have a constant tremor (nothing concerning). You should see me trying to apply eye liner. I am pretty sure my eyeballs didn't need the color they've been stabbed with at times.  LOL! As for the moral, I think they get there by accident sometimes.

Michael,
A construction site, huh? I'm sure there were some interesting comments. 😁 I'm glad to have brought some amusement to your day.

Does this doghouse have an outlet and mirror? I need a place for my flatiron and a mirror to paint in front of. 😉

I was surprised when a hilarious image came to mind when I wrote the "...attack yourself..." part.

Thank you. I was hoping that a male audience would find the humor in this. I've watched YouTube videos of guys making fun of the serious beauty videos.  I find them to be hilarious. 😂

jwesley,

Thank you for answering the draw. I was hoping this one would be successful in it's attempt to be different. I am trying to prove to myself that it doesn't all have to be gut grabbing and solemn.

As for the photo, thank you. I might be blushing. 😊 The photo was me getting ready for a formal event. I definitely felt the anxiety over looking presentable. I hadn't felt that since Jr and Sr prom SO many years ago. It was a fun night though. Apparently, I clean up nice. 🤣

Compliments on anything from one of my favorite poets here make me smile.

Namyh,

Thank you. I'm glad you found some use for it. I was definitely considering a book two.

Sven,

My soul says to get me a YouTube channel! I may have a future in comedy after all!

It has been a while. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
