Fair to middlin' of nowhere

The Kansas wind,
near about Spring,
gathers up her voice
and rocks the house.
She rattles the trees
until they rumble and roar.
Then whistles thorough
rafters, windows and door
as she blows the clouds away.
Laid back listening,
feeling the warm sunshine,
the wind is like lullabies
to my drowsing eyes.
It blows me back in time,
to a farmhouse on a hill
catching summer gusts
with whistles shrill.
Naptime at Grandma’s,
upstairs in her bed,
the wind swirling unfamiliar sounds
around about my little head.
I must have found comfort there,
or retreated to sleep out of fear.
The memory soothes me
in that simpler time
of childlike ways when
I first heard the lullabye wind.

Ah, may the magic of that lullaby wind never lose its effect on you, Lori.  This swept me away.

My mother used to sing to us (my brothers and I) when we were little. She would never have made it past Simon Cowell but it sounded great to me and your poem brought back memories.
