Fair to middlin' of nowhere

The stage has been set,
the participants all in place.
The prosecution rests
before a jury that
a majority did disgrace.
Minds made up
before a word was uttered.
They fidgeted,
they slept,
they left the room
to talk on the phone
or give an interview.
They kept their computer watches
in open disregard of the rules.
All this before a judge who sat silent
as the disrespect was shown.
The defense implied the charges were hooey
made up to thwart the upcoming election.
Despite the fact that what the defendant did,
he tried without detection.
It seems the defense is indifferent to
inviting election interference
from other countries
blatantly on TV
or the hush hush with the Ukraine
they swear never existed.
It is all being swept under the rug of
this President can do as he pleases.
Checks and balances don’t apply to him
and his way or the highway.
God forbid you should disagree
you’ll be tweeted out of a job
and on the street.
All the experienced and qualified advisers
have hit the revolving door.
In their place are lackeys saying yes,
or better yet nothing at all.
In my distress,
I do digress
from what I was getting at.
The dangerous situation
that seems to be illuding the GOP,
is that a President unchecked,
defying all restraints
demanded by the Constitution,
if allowed to continue,
will in essence obliterate
the rule of law
that protects us from anyone
who would dare to rise above it.
It is not a call or commentary
on the economy or unemployment,
however successful they may be.
It does not excuse or compensate
for overstepping the powers of the Office.
Logic would dictate that if a person
gets caught with their hand
in the cookie jar of election interference
can no longer to be trusted
to stop what has been put in motion.
And it clears the way for the next one voted in,
irregardless of party or view,
to do the same thing without concern.
My anxiety is clear to see.
It is 47 to 53
that he will be guaranteed
to go on unfettered by the law
of the Constitution
and forever damaging our Democracy.
I do not expect my words to be well received
in this blue space.
Despite that fact,
I've had my say
and now I rest my case.
