I Miss the Man

I miss the man, so stern, yet mild,
Who guided me ‘long as a child—
Who taught me virtue, and to fight,
Till cancer robbed him of that right.

I miss the man who stepped out then,
From his shadow with pride and pen
And lofty goals to change the world.
A casualty of life unfurled.

A man who dropped will to conquer,
To simply share his heart with her.
The young heart that was sacrificed
‘Her lust, too easily enticed.

I miss the man who lived by code,
Even watching all ‘loved erode—
Who walked away still meeting eye
Of every soulsuck passerby.

The man who clung to his purpose,
As life turned into a circus.
Before hopeless, disheveled dream
Was all he had left to esteem.

The man seemingly no more there
In mind, or mirror's returned stare.
A shadow of all once believed,
By dimmed eyes now barely perceived.

Strong verses, yet with so much heartfelt emotion.
I really enjoyed the read.

Michael, man's greatest enemy has been here for a long long time. we have to savour the memories sometimes the good and the bed together make the full picture. This was very nicely but heartfelt written I could feel it all the way through. Eric
