If I were an artist, there are scenes I would not paint-
Encounters on the paths of life, unsuited for the faint.
Things that, to this day, bring tears, to my life hardened eyes-
One reason that I’m wary, and truly hate surprise.

Death, in a multitude of forms, took those I’ve cared about-
And even worse, the hearts and minds, crushed by fear and doubt.
The lies I’ve heard; indeed, I spoke, but that was long ago-
And now I gaze on wasted years, and wonder… “Where’d it go?”

Where went the innocence of youth? The strength of middle age?
Where went the letters written large, I planned for my life’s page?
Where went the harmony and love, that I once visualized-
Until at last, to my disgust, the truth I realized.

What truth you ask? And well you might. Why, friend, life is a hoax!
And fools and dreamers like myself, are butts of all the jokes.
But laugh on, friend; enjoy mirth, as I go down the path-
Reality will serve you well, when I have the last laugh.

May you soon relinquish your own fears and doubts and remember that life is not a hoax, but the beautiful gift you believed in such a short while ago – and may you soon realise that you are neither a fool, nor a butt of any joke, and may you soon again know that we can regain our beautiful dreams, our harmony, our love, and that we can make make those dreams, that harmony, that love, realities even more beautiful and more real than your and our dreams, so that neither you nor anyone else needs to have a last laugh.  You only need to choose to relinquish, remember, realise, know and make these things.  It is up to you, and your choice.  Choice is active and not passive.  May you choose wisely for your and our happiness.  I love you, John.  Let’s not waste any more time of this short life.

The simple words, “I love you”-
Simply cannot justice do…
For the flood of deep emotions,
Each time I think of you.

The tenderness of your replies,
Fair tear my heart apart-
The feeling and the pathos-
Of your sweet poetic art.

I can picture summer bowers-
The caress of gentle breeze-
And your presence in my arms, dear-
Do set my heart at ease.

You tend to quiet my demons-
By your words, what they imply-
And even though my heart is hard,
I cannot help but cry.

What lies ahead? I do not know-
But this, dear heart, is true…
Wherever fate directs my path-
I will go there loving you.

I Love You

1 December 2019

I love you on all the days that the sun rises and sets and has its being;
I love you as it showers the tiniest little golden flowers with light;
I love you as it spreads its warmth and joy to half the world, at a time,
faithfully and without fail.
I love you on Mondays and Sundays and every day in between;
I love you in every month that starts with a letter of the alphabet;
I love you in the ethereal morning mists that embrace the world in their silver grey blanket;
I love you in the orchestral harmonising of birds singing hymns to the dawning day;
I love you as a mountain stream giggles its way over teasing pebbles;
I love you as a bucking bronco flies its mane and heels in delight or victory;
I love you in the gazillions of greens that give life to primal forests;
I love you in the weft and weave of heavy white canvas and the softest pale pink silk;
I love you in the colours splashed on to butterfly wings;
I iove you how my toes curl when you kiss me over the ether;
I love you like names in beach sand, long after rippling waves have obliterated them;
I love you like the laughter of brave terminal patients;
I love you like the fragrance of coffee brewing and the savouring of mushrooms fried in a pan;
I love you in the arc of a rainbow – you are my pot of better than gold;
I love you in the crashing chords of thunder and the illuminating flares of lightning;
I love you in the whispers of your voice over sea miles to me in the breeze;
I love you in the beginning and the end of the earth.
I love you in the emptiness of space and the fullness of my heart.
I love you in the majesty of the roar of a lion and the squeak of an adorable little mouse.
I love you
no matter what.
I love you, love you, love you – you, and only you.
