Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Amazing how a few words
can turn your world upside down.
Bad news.
Good news.
It flips a switch,
and everything changes.
Your perspective gets
an unexpected spin.
Every aspect is effected,
Everything has a different
look and feel.
It is not an option.
Amazing how despite the words.
the world continues on unfazed.
The grass grows,
the sun comes up
and the wind still blows,
like nothing ever happened.
Like North on a compass,
it gives us our bearings
to which is right side up.

So very true, Lori, and so cleverly, uniquely, insightfully and poetically put.  And the last 2 lines are a magnificent ending in more ways than one.  Not even the 3rd last line gives a hint (one is still expecting the opposite after reading it).  Kudos!

Owl,
thanks so much for the read and your generous comments. The back story is that recently my husband was told he had cancer on his carotid artery that would require surgery, radiation and chemo. Then he was told it was his parotid gland and had a needle biopsy that came back negative. He was finally given the PET scan he had been denied in July. He had no cancer anywhere. Obviously he didn't have cancer and the first report was wrong. So we did bad news, good news. ~L

Lori, I got most of that (minus the details, especially minus the DENIAL!!! of a scan in July!!!) from your poems and posts recently.  Yow, what a horrible scare, but WHAT a final relief in the end!  If it wasn't for the denial of the scan in July, I would have said that sometimes we forget that doctors are human and can make mistakes, but I am too shocked to say that now!  Denying a scan sounds even less than human to me.  None of my business and you have both probably thought of this anyway, but a second opinion (or a checkup a little down the line) may be a good safety precaution.  Cancer caught early is so much easier to get rid of than if left too late.  Happy smiles to both of you!

Very well written.....
It was thoroughly enjoyed

We see the light of those who find the world has passed them by, too late to save a dream that's growing cold
