Incomplete

I open my book of shadows,
My fingertips trace the cold page—
Legacy of lost tomorrows
Prophesied by yesterday’s sage.
Where is she now that I must live
With all these truths her lies entailed?
Bled to dry, learning to forgive,
It’s but the “why?” that remains veiled.

The winds whisper a hallowed tune,
Those stray tones from abandoned halls
That sing to me of woe and ruin—
Stature once held ‘these crumbling walls.
Palace of grandeur, stark and bare,
What’s left of glories gone afore?
I lift my cup, in toast, to share
The memory, yet nothing more.

While silence overtakes echo,
Darkness erases candlelight
Till notions cease to ebb or flow,
And hope is given to the blight.
The page now turned, none yet follow.
I lean back in my creaking chair.
The end, so near, and still I know
She won’t be waiting for me there.

With sigh given, I close the book.
Mind grown so exceedingly numb.
No more holding the will to look,
Nor believing answers will come.
I make my way unto my feet,
The murk beyond calling my name.
Yes, destiny feels incomplete,
I’ve naught left for it, just the same.

Wow! Almost a catharsis, or maybe almost is not the word. Well written, well thought out, but infinitely tragic.

Michael...From the first line to the last I am totally blown away by this poem.
Wherever you get the words to write something as beautifully sad as this I sure wish I had the key to that part of your soul so I could steal a few poems.
Thank you for writing and sharing this masterpiece with us. The meter is right on I counted every line...Paul

Poet Michael, You make me want to hold
your face in my hands..

A Fine read,
Sky~

A Poem Begins as a
Lump in the Throat,
A Sense of Wrong,
A Home-Sickness,
A Love-Sickness.

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey - Your poetic elegance is first rate and is to be admired. The words go straight to the heart and stay there. The artistry of your poet's pen shines bright here and I loved the glow. Thanks Michael for sharing. Namyh

I think catharsis is the perfect word, John.  Thank you.

Getting meter right was never my strong point, Paul... glad to know I finally got one right.     Would hesitate to give you the key to 8that part of my soul though...gets mighty dark in there.

Sky and Namyh, thank you so much for you kind words.
