Spring Festival Day
at Liberty School.
So many beautiful flowers.
The day is sunny but cool
following a day of showers.
On the lawn in front of the school,
the maypole stands against the sky.
A magnificent sight
in the eyes of a child.
Brightly colored streamers
hang trembling in the wind
while the dancers stand and wait
for the music to begin.
It all seems so long ago.
There is no maypole now.
For one reason or another
it has disappeared somehow,
filfilling some misguided duty
to create a world bereft of beauty.

Too bad that simple acts of beauty and celebration have faded into the past...we need so much more of that sort of thing. I'd love to see one for real. ~L
