I spent a lot of wasted years just dreaming-
And all too often, had those dreams alone.
Penning down my thoughts and aspirations-
My life was like a sad, old country song.

Dreaming of a better life soon coming-
Alas, I guess I must have missed my turn.
I guess those dreams of yesteryear still haunt me-
Alone at night I sometime sit and yearn.

I wonder where that dreaming youth has gone to?
I miss the look of marvel on his face,
As his eyes caressed a lot of pretty country-
And a cynical old man has took his place.

The faded dreams have somehow lost their luster-
The glory of the future turned to gloom…
Doubt and disillusion have replaced them,
I guess the hand of time has sealed their doom.

But still I face the future quite determined-
To end my race the same way I begun-
My head unbowed, not asking you for pity-
Just light a candle when my drifting’s done.

There's some movie about Temple Grandin that I've never seen because I'm suspicious of biographies. She is, matter of fact, in her 70s and I suppose she has her own opinions on what she's done with her life. People need to have role models. Don't you think?

Really liked this one.  Relate to it in so many ways.  Excellent writing.

May we not need that candle for many years, yet.

You're right, it is best to stand bravely before what we cannot change
