Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Dogs don’t purr
and cats don’t
wag their tails.
They are fashioned from
totally different fabrics
of  affection.
The dry raspy kiss
of a cat
in no way resembles
the damp soggy smooch
of a pooch.
A cat will rub against you
where a dog will simply
pester you with a paw.
A cat can knead you
like a ball of dough.
A dog will dig you like dirt.
Upon your lap,
it is a well known fact,
a dog might wiggle and squirm.
A cat would never act
like that.
A dog will come to you
bursting with affection.
A cat, on the other hand,
waits until it is going your direction
to stop and let you pet it.
I’ll defer
to which you prefer.
Just keep in mind,
dogs don’t purr.

Marvelous! How accurate, and droll, simultaneously!

Thanks Gunslinger!
Winston was a good dog and I'm taking his passing hard. I'm thinking I'll be writing a bit of dog poetry here for a while. ~L

I feel your ache, Lori. Winston, is now in Heaven, where there is no more pain and suffering ever again.  He is bounding happily through gardens with other dogs, but all the time watching over you.  The loving and caring bond you share with each other will never be broken.  Tears and hugs.  Rest (and play) in peace and happiness, dear beautiful, cuddly, clever, lovable, loving, sweetie-pie Winston and help dry Mommy's tears in time.  As you know, angel-doggie, your Mommy will love you for ever and ever and ever.

Thanks everybody for your support. Funny thing about this poem, it gave me the idea of the possibility for another book of my poetry--A collection of all my animal poetry. And this would be the title poem. I'm not up to the challenge at the moment, but a seed has been planted. ~L
