I was once a reader, romantic tales and such-
It stirred a hunger in my heart, and made me long so much:
For some fair damsel’s tender heart, to beat in time with mine…
Alas, those dreams were fruitless and withered on the vine.

It seems as I grew older, a cynic I became-
I’m sure the choice was mine alone, I’ve no one else to blame.
But cynicism surely serves, to harden up the heart-
And with it, from society, the cynic will depart.

For over forty years now, I guess I’ve walked alone…
Even with companions, I am always on my own.
Trust is for the youngsters, with wide and wondering eyes-
Experience will kill it, before you realize.

And cynicism, over life, will always call a pall-
And root out all remaining hope. Whether big, or small…
So what’s the difference how it ends? Or what ahead does wait?
I’ll go alone, no grieving friends, when Death stands at the gate.

Well now, you sure do write some fine poetry.  We all have a choice as to how we live our life.  I figure it comes down to what we can live with and what we can live without.  It’s a fine line.
