It's too cold to snow,
They say.
Less than 32° and
"It is just too cold."

So, at a temperature of 13°
I watch as single, silent, six-pointed
Crystals float down and across
As tenaciously as a 16 year old girl
Against the tethers of childhood
Belaying the They.

Few in number, the crystals skirt the wind
Dancing bits of lost lace, looking for the
Tree they want to dress, enhance, make
Ready for the Cowboy's Ball.

"It's too cold..." They say. To make ready,
To travel far, to color rosy the young cheeks
Under the glance of roving eyes;

So the snow crystals, and the young maids
Silently laugh, and twirl, and grow
And yearn to dance in February snow.

Nothing like a touch of sunshine to warm up a cold Kansas day.

I've missed you all. Life is awhirl with busy-ness...but I'm hoping to get back into my writing [as well as painting] mode. Hugs to all.

Your words make warm the snow.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm...
But how to dance in the rain.

The first time I experienced snow at our new home this winter...I saw the dance you speak of and was surprised by the slow drift.  Lovely poem.

Hi Sunshine, you've written such a lovely poem!  I just adore a gentle snowfall on a crisp winter night.  My daughter is not too fond of snow (aka.. the white stuff lol), but she gets a kick seeing my excitement once in a blue moon when it does snow here! Thank you so much for sharing this

Love this one, Karilea. It reminds me of playing in the snow. Kid's don't care how cold it is.
