Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Oh my little Christmas tree,
how much it meant to me
to not wait so late
and decorate it early.
No dread this year
or procrastination.
The day after Thanksgiving
I was full of holiday cheer
and decorating motivation.
Everything I needed
was on a closet shelf.
The end of last year
I had been a smart little elf
and not sent it all out to the shed
in tubs too many,,,
the source of all my dread.
Away I started hanging each ornament
with fun and excitement.
Each one brought back a memory
as I hung it on the little tree.
The look was homespun and unique,
the garland a rope of wooden beads
and a red velveteen bow at its peak.
No tinsel or shiny glitz.
Just  a few things here and there
with reflective bits,
like little brass bells
and sequins on snowmen and elves.
Before I knew it my fun was done.
It was time to plug in the tree’s
built in lights.
But to my consternation
only the bottom half had illumination.
My gumption depleted,
I felt defeated.
I just unplugged it
and let it go
au natural for a week or so.
I kicked myself for not first checking that,
Must have a brain the size of a gnat.
Checking each bulb was overwhelming me,
and it did look handmade pretty naturally.
So I was okay with it even though
at night I missed that special glow.
Then my sweet husband stepped in
to see what was the problem.
I have to say
he fixed what was wrong right away.
Wouldn’t you know,
I didn’t plug the top into the bottom!
So, the joke’s on me
as the lights now twinkle merrily.
Happy Holidays my friends,
may your days be filled with love and laughter.
Those are the gifts we are really after.

L., Grinned all the way through this,
made me think back to the trees I've had over the yrs. & some of the little stories behind them. Glad your glow is back.
A pleasure to read,
Merry Christmas to you & yours..

Merry Christmas Sky!
Your comment got me to thinking back on other tree stories I hadn't thought about in years.
So I thank you for that! I'm delighted to have put a smile on your face. ~L

What can I say? the enthusiasm, the pleasure, and most importantly, the fun of the season where all there . . .

Enjoyed your enjoyment, my friend.

I'm so glad your hubby fixed the tree, as the warming glow must be enveloping and enjoyable..nothing like Christmas decorations to warm the soul.....

Lovely write.

LeeJ,
You are so right about warming the soul! It also helps me when contemplating Christmas gifts- especially stocking stuffers. ~L
