watching the window from across the room
a strange phenomenon is taking place
moths flutter and smash into it
trying to get to the burning candle
on the other side of the window
they collide violently into the glass
in mindless pursuit of the flame
I watch mesmerized
at their frenzied craving for the candle's heat
in spite of what will be the
inevitable fatal burn

hate to admit it
they are a lot like me
back in tha day

I can so relate to your words....and btw, beautifully written...enjoy reading you and the transformation that has taken place...I heard Rita Moreno, speaking this morning, about her age, now 80, she says it's the best time of her life....and wishing she had known what she knows now...I feel the very same way...although, I'm not 80, but looking so forward to knowing what an 80 year old should know....thank you for the wonderful inspiration.

Thank you Lee. It seems that ritzy Rita Moreno and I have something in common. I turn eighty next April, and I can say I have never been to a hospital to even stay overnight, never mind spending any and days there. I thank my "real" mother and father whoever they may be for the incredible DNA. I love them for whatever reason.

Don't know which I liked better, your poem (which was great) or your comment, especially the DNA part.  Equal billing I think.

Much enjoyed this - the seriousness and the chuckles . . .

Ahhh . . . Many thanks go out to you, Jimmy. You hit the nail on the head about the DNA. I have been truly blessed by my "real" parents. I have led a charmed life concerning my health. Thank you for picking up on it.

In my book, to see yourself in nature is a wonderful thing. To see yourself as a man, in the moth possessed, drawn to crash and burn is enlightening. Never forget about the ones that survived the night. ~L

Ahhh . . . Lori, you always come across with a great comment, which this is, but you go further than that, which this poem gave you to look for the survivors. You darn sure did that.
