Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Coffee with Ethel in the morning
is a change of pace.
Oh, I’m still creeping
while the old man is sleeping.
But now I’m sliding pocket doors
and pouring bottled water in the pot.
Ethel insists I turn off the air conditioning
before I plug in the coffee maker.
If I don’t, she is likely to blow a fuse.
She does that alot.
Like killing the frig with the microwave.
So we just turn off my beloved AC
while I’m drinking coffee
in the cool of predawn.
Then I hear the early birds starting their day.
Some are in the trees singing,
the others are my neighbors,
eager to be on their way.
Quiet as mice they are as they pack up,
disconnecting hoses, folding chairs and rolling up the awning.
They slide in backs and sides, putting it all back just so.
Then they start their engines and pull out nice and slow.
They are gone with the sound of crunching gravel.
I wonder where today they will all travel.
We’ll be early birds tomorrow.
Old Ethel just can’t handle the heat.
We’ll be home by 9:30 that morning
and I can go pick up my Winston
from the Soggy Dog Spa.
I have missed him so.
I know he misses me too,
even though he spent my vacation
in a fancy doggie bungalow.
But for now, Ethel is queen of my relaxation.
as I sit here beside her,
under a maple tree,
writing and watching the sun rise.

Yann,
Remember Ethel the RV? I'm talking about her and the other campers at the RV campsite. ~L

Yeah, remember those days well - only we had a tent.  A little less 'homey' but still, the rest of the story is the same.  Loved it, but alas, it (tents) lost their shine for these old bones a few years back.  And of course, all the aches of camping like that still plague us as if we where still doing it!.

I hate the physical aspects of getting older!!!

loved this,

j.

We do get attached to our modes of trasportation, even to naming them. Enjoyed this.

That was so very nice to read. I could picture it in my mind even the doggy reunion.
