Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Rain stumbled in about 3 in the morning
bouncing off the walls loud enough to wake the dead.
The prodigal son finally returning home
after seemingly being everywhere else.
He lit up the town like there was no tomorrow.
Welcomed he was no matter the hour.
He’d been sorely missed.
Relieved we all were he came home alone.
He runs with a pretty rough crowd.
Wind, lightning, tornado and hail;
they call themselves the storm.
Some folks don’t seem to care for rain
whenever he shows up.
I’m not sure why.
Perhaps it’s his unpredictability
and a tendency to scuddle plans.
Or it could be his gray demeanor
and the soft way he speaks to flowers and trees.
They are not lulled by his lullabies.
They are unimpressed with his green thumb.
Rain didn’t stay long,
he rarely does and slipped away
around about daybreak.
All he left behind were puddles
and a hint of his cologne.

Thanks Yann for reading my poem. I'm glad you liked it. First one I have written in a while.
