Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Gray skies loom teasingly
with appearances of rain.
Barricading the Sun’s rays
behind clouds the day stays cool.
Windows open inviting
the steady breezes in.
The air is heavy with humidity
and the possibility of storms.
Last night’s weather radar
was lit up in reds and yellows
and dotted with tornados.
Tonight promises more of the same.
Our storm cellar is cleaned up
and ready for the season.
Chairs and candles and towels
are waiting for our mad dash
down the steps in the rain.
I must remember an umbrella
in case the roof leaks,
and a lighter
for the candles
in case the lights go out.
It is that time of year again.

Hah! Would love to observe the preparation getting ready for the storm cellar.

It would be anticlimactic (unless there is a snake in the cellar). ~L

Usually, snakes of the "Garter variety" enjoyed root cellars and gardens I have known. Rat snakes, too.

One year just a snake's tail stuck out of the corner. It was stuck and eventually died.

up and downs of the weather, i very love the details and feelings of the poem, creating a
eerie atmosphere (hope the word eerie is correct)
