Ambition’s hard to gain if you’ve no manner of control,
drifting round in circles and living off the ‘dole’

Dragged up in the morning and thrown to bed at night,
one starts to feel the pressure of living an empty life

The critics are the enemy, they’re laughing when you’re down,
marking you the foolish one and calling you a clown

Led into the ocean by the wisdom of the blind,
‘til the shoreline gets too crowded and you’re swept out by the tide

The corporation creeps are commuting on a ghost train,
dead leaves are all that’s seen as they blow down mem’ry lane

All my life I spent in dreams not just when I was sleeping,
You know, I’ve given up on useless thoughts of ideal living

Oh I hear ya, loud and clear. If we could go back to the economy of the 50's we'd be feeling pretty good. But that is the only part of the 50's I want, they can keep their social issues. ~L

Heh.Heh I gave up "on useless thoughts of ideal living" a long time ago. Then and now makes not one whit of difference. It's all in your mind, and you can deal with it if your a mind to.

Manufacturing was the core of the 50's and many small businesses were flourishing.
Massive numbers of skilled men and women were discharged after WWII and found GI Bill success.
Skilled civilians who worked in war plants were then free to use their talents as well.

It was a relatively short period in time, but time itself seemed to move much more slowly
...and the world was a much larger place too.

Thanks for reading me, Miss Lori.
Now break out that poodle-skirt and let's go get a malted!

"It's all in your mind, and you can deal with it if your a mind to."
