It begins with the turning of a key
Barreled springs torque up and come to life,
demanding loyalty from the gears and levers above them

The pendulum is set in motion
moving in a seeming perpetual arc
it's steady beat whittling away at our lives

Measuring the rhythm of our hearts
and the expansion of our lungs
Chiseling away fragments of the time we share together

These precious hours we spend in sweet embraces
knowing we must surrender to its beckoning call
at the strike of our final hour

What then, my love, if we threw away the key?
What then my love,
would become of you and me?
