Fair to middlin' of nowhere

She hates her name.
duh-NOR-ee
It is a combination
of her father’s (Dan)
and my name (Lori).
People tell her
what a pretty name
it is all the time.
Maybe because
she always has to
pronounce it twice
and then spell it.
I never thought of that
when I came up with it.
I thought it was short
and easy to spell
and one of a kind.
Or maybe it runs
deeper than that.
Maybe because
it is a constant reminder
of the emotional hell
that was her father and me.
He was hellbent
on self destruction
and I thought I was
divinely directed to save him.
After nine years
it was either him or me,
and Danori was a mess.
He always said he would
die without me.
Sure enough,
six months later
he was dead.
At eight she needed
to believe
it was my fault.

Knowing that there are myriad things that lay between the lines making each of our (everyones) situations unique, I, too have tried to 'save' someone a long time ago and even was 'accused' of it. So, like you perhaps, I lost someone and willingly took the fall, the impact of which resonates to this day.

It's just one of the things a parent does, isn't it, Miss Lori. Among everything else required for the job is a chin of steel and an open throat.

Carry on, dear Mother.

We used to fight like cat and dogs. She moved out at 18 and moved back in about a year and a half later. We get along a lot better now. She is engaged and they are looking for a house to rent. It gets better with time. ~L

Pinkhugerz,
Yes love is amazing.  Also the fact that she is very smart has helped her grow out of a lot of her issues. ~L
