Tonight is a night for reminiscing
For you dearest Mom I'm sorely missing
The warmth of the season is just not here
For gone is your laughter and yuletide cheer

The tree lights this year cast a dim dull glow
There is no sparkle in the falling snow
The cold of winter chills me to the bone
This Christmas I'll spend without you alone

Each ornament placed upon the ole' tree
Is nestled lovingly in memory
Of years gone by when you added your touch
My heart is aching I miss you so much

Baking cookies this year was not the same
When a batch burnt you were not here to blame
The scent of gingerbread hangs in the air
The sweetness now soured by your empty chair

I missed us bustling from store to store
Wrapping gifts this holiday is a chore
When I hung up all the stockings with care
I could not omit from hanging yours there

It may seem foolish but it soothes my soul
It gives me comfort and makes me feel whole
You have taught me well I will do my part
To get through Christmas with a happy heart

Such warm, yet painful sentiments, my dear Miss Pinky. But this, your last stanza, shows your strength. The line about the 'burnt cookies' was pure gold.

You do your mother proud.

Just thought I'd stop by again to leave you this most obvious tune, Miss Pinky. No! No! Put your purse away! You can't buy this! It's okay, really...No extra charge...but an extra smile would be graciously accepted!

Pinkgrieving,
You do as well in blue as you do in pink! This is a lovely, warm and wonderful poem.
Bluesy is right, you did your mother proud here. Heck, I'm proud of you and you aren't even mine! ~L

A bittersweet lament. But this is how it must be, isn't it? Beautiful poem.
