Friend was a no show
so much for cob webs and dust
Too tired cut rug

Got gifts boxed to wrap
maybe get that done today.
What a pile of gifts!

More shopping to do...
grand kids, sons, daughter-in-laws
and Mom and Dad too.

Last year we gave cash
and some gift certificates.
This year we do gifts.

Dennis put up star
outside up on the trellis
that's all for this year.

Dennis discouraged
scared he won't be here next year.
Eating the problem.

Try to reassure,
tell him do not talk like that.
Look at what he has.

Glass half empty guy
Wish I could turn him around.
He is too picky.

Can't let that get me.
I'm really doing good now.
No dreading at all.

Got picture of Kate
with baby bump due in May
It will be their first.

Son Sam is Daddy
Boy, they sure were surprised!
Sam will be forty.

I am so happy
I am closest with Sam, Kate.
I am excited.

Get the wrapping done,
clean my refrigerator
it will be good day.

Dinner with my folks
every Sunday evening.
They look forward to.

They are 88
Not many Xmases left
to celebrate with.

Got up at 3a
Cat was pawing me to scratch
her behind the ears.

So now here I am
writing away with myself
by light of the tree.

Hope you had great time
and you cut rug once for me,
soon cut one with her.

What a love story
thinking about two of you.
You two are special.

Hope that you slept well
and dreamed dreams of good things.
Talk to you later.

Sundays are busy
but not for many people
Most of them are men

Yes, I admit it
But Bluesy’s the exception
He’s busy writing

There’s other things ‘two’
My two demanding pooches
like to wrestle me

When they’re playing hard
they want more than an “ear scratch”
and they get it too!

Monster dogs from hell
Both over a hundred pounds!
Poor little Bluesy…

There is a Tomcat
that gets along with the dogs
He’s a badass too!

With these characters
my five acre neighborhood
is VERY secure!

They’re a lot of laughs
with many good years in them
Many more to come

Sooner or later
our dogs and cats will be gone
Maybe we’ll go first

I should talk to them
and prepare them for the worst
But they’d only laugh

Everything’s a joke
None of them are serious
until its meal time!

When they stare at me
and both start licking their chops
I need to be quick!

Ravenous eaters
though they have learned to share food
Two bob-tails wagging

Anyway, Lori
Sorry that you missed your dance
Garth Brooks sang that song

It was called “The Dance”
I’m sure you’ve heard it before
Here’s a refresher:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpwdwbO1uvM

Turn the volume up
and have yourself a slow dance
even with a mop!

I’ll be seeing you
Keep dancing until you drop
alongside the mop...

...just bein' Bluesy

I get a filling
this afternoon after work
oh boy, oh joy, joy.

No biggy really,
I like my dentist a lot
he does not hurt me.

We're on 5 acres
across the road from village
We are West of Niles.

If we had a fence
a gated community
is what we would be.

We put up some signs
that say West Niles on our lot.
We live in suburb.

Big joke that we have,
Dennis is self appointed
Sherriff of Niles.

I like our Village
I know just a few people
I like it like that.

Twenty minute drive
on the highway to my work.
Hate it when icy.

Wrapped a bunch of gifts,
have a lot more gifts to go.
Shopping almost done.

So looking forward
to seeing my family
'specially the grand kids.

3 & 1 good age
to be buying Christmas for,
they sure are easy.

They are happy kids
like to ham for the camera.
They are spoiled too.

Are you counting days?
How many left till she is home?
God Speed the days through.

I’ll pick her up in
Three hundred and fifteen days
That to us is ‘soon’

Our lives will be changed
and will never be the same
Sell it all and go

Saved every day
to go where neither is known
Near to you in Niles >>-----→ Ha-ha-ha! We know the Sheriff!

“Stick ‘em up Lori!
We’re takin’ over this town!
Gold fillings and all!”

Nah! We quit that game
We just want to be plain folk
You keep your fillings

We learned a while back
lovers can do crazy things
We sowed and we reaped

Delayed all our plans
going for the laughs instead
We could have done both

Time to start again
This time we’ll do things smarter
Taking things slowly

No more repeating
of holidays in prison
We’ll share them all soon

It’s been a long time
but we say that’s all it’s been
Could have been much worse

Appreciation
for each day God gives to us
we return to Him

Thanks for your kind thoughts
You’ve known many hard times too
So you relate well

My parents long gone
Linny’s are still together
They even like me!

They know how it was
the fire in our two hearts
that’s still burning hot

North Carolina
is where they make their home now
Maybe we’ll go there

I haven’t seen them
but we connected last year
Writing now and then

I’ll pick her up in
Three hundred and fifteen days
I love her so much…

You two are so cool!
I'm getting excited too.
What a love story.

I think when time nears
you will be very giddy
and write silly stuff.

You will play catch up
and have you a honeymoon.
Don't forget to write.

You may have written
just to pass the days away,
soon that need be gone.

We will still be here
thinking about your new life.
Wonderin' what's up.

Come to Blue Buffet
bring Linny along with you
Spill your hearts in words.

By then we may have
gotten to know her through your
eyes and loving voice.

Glad I've gotten to
know all about you and stuff.
You are a good friend.

You are supportive
You act like you are a fan.
God bless your sweet heart.

She’s a strong woman
She was also a strong girl
I’ve always loved her

I was made for her
and she sure was made for me
We both fell in love

Some guys had to fight
to keep their steady happy
and to keep her his

We never played games
You can’t lose what you don’t have
So we never lost

We both are silly
Still laughing at the same things
Just laughing smarter

Honeymoon yearnings
We write about them a lot
She’s my true desire

I fade in and out
You see my many mood swings
Few of them are real

You know when they’re real
Because you know more than most
I know this is true

I write fantasy
I write soapbox comedy
Sometimes till it hurts

When I write ‘for real’
I always write about her
...and you know that too  (and I appreciate that you do, Miss Lori   )

I’ll always write you
Maybe with another name
But I know you’ll know

You’re also my friend
Too bad we’re both spoken for
We’d make a good team!  (Ha-ha-ha! Don’t rat me out to the ‘Sheriff’! )

Went home sick Wednesday,
felt like my body had headache.
Slept rest of the day.

Stomach was queasy.
I did not lift a finger
I am better now.

I won’t tell Sherriff
He would have both of our heads
Jealous to the bone.

I’m so excited
No dreading Xmas this year.
Daughter has been help.

We’ll do Xmas eve
to open gifts with family.
Make pot of ham and beans.

Christmas morning go
to his grandkids for more gifts,
then lunch with my folks.

Daughter Danori
will be getting engaged
prob’ly at New Year’s.

He got her sapphire
Because she is so unique
Diamond just too plain.

I really like him.
He makes her very happy.
He is a nice guy.

Feels good to feel good,
Despite him saying dumb stuff
that hurts my feelings.

Depression is bad.
He said I was just waiting
for him to die. Grrrr!

Wanna just smack him
Knock him right off pity pot.
Wake up smell coffee.

For Christmas I wish
I could give him a way to
not worry so much.

Thanks for letting me
Blow off some steam about stuff.
Nice to have an ear.

Do you know why there
is an angel on top the tree?
One year bad blizzard.

Santa had the flu, diarrhea.
Had awful time loading sleigh.
Elves are blown away.

Team took off, left sleigh.
Reindeer rounded up, Claus mad!
Angel comes flying up

Angel has a tree
“Santa where I put this tree”
He told her where to.

That why angel is
on top of the Christmas tree.
HO, HO, HO, HO, HO,

It’s been a long day
Not in a bad way but good
Fit so much in it

Some days are shorter
But that’s only natural
All in my approach

Got an early start
Got my chores done and shopping
And rolled with the dogs

Blankets of fall leaves
Crispy ‘snap, crackle and pop’
as we rolled on them

I never rake them
I wait till it gets windy
and blows them away

Still, I like the leaves
A seasonal divider
that I like to watch

I took the dogs into town
They like riding in the truck
In the bed that is

They’re too distracting
to ride along in the cab
They like to look mean

I keep them tethered
to the truck bed floor anchors
so they won’t jump out

But they won’t lay down
They like their face in the wind
like riding a bike

It was a fun day
Wrote Linny a long letter
Made me feel real good

Her last Christmas there
It will be a slow process
for her to adjust

That’s the way it is
But together we’ll be fine
since we both relate

The main thing for us
has always remained the same
Being together

Hope your day is good
with no unwanted drama
See you, Miss Lori

Oh! By the way…

What’s the difference
‘tween Tiger Woods and Santa?
Santa has (only) three Ho’s  >>>---→

Yes! TGIF!
I’m so freaking tired
Blood sugar too high

Between me and dog
up too many times last night
cat woke me at 3:00.

A nap is tugging
at my eyelids like bar bells.
Hard to keep open.

The coffee I drink
makes me run to bathroom.
THAT keeps me awake.

I finally have work
to do, I’m not in the mood
Hard to focus on.

Off to take powder,
be back in just a jiffy.
Stairs are a killer.

I hope today flies
I have lots of stuff to do.
Shopping & wrapping.

I wish it would rain,
too dry to burn our trash.
Coming out our ears!

I think that it spit
3 whole raindrops yesterday.
So disappointed.

Trump stuff on TV
really has me worried sick,
Country in trouble.

Glad we are talking
about acting right at work.
Gone on too darn long.

Putin is weasel.
Him and Trump 2 of a kind.
What world coming to?

Hope you’re not Trump fan.
Sorry don’t mean to offend.
But he is a pig!

I could rant all day
So just don’t get me started,
I will hush up now.

I swear that the clock
is going backwards today.
Oh nooo! Argh, harrumph!

Better get working
Before I start a snoring
‘ku keeps me awake.

Could do this all day,
prefer a quiet classroom.
Take what I can get.

Students are restless,
eager to start the weekend.
Hope stay out of jail.

I’m secretary
to kids at high risk drop out.
Can be a challenge.

Been here 15 years.
I’ll prob’ly die at my desk.
Can’t afford to quit.

I like Fridays too
for a different reason
Saturday mornings

My dogs sleep outside
I don't like to tether them
They keep things in check

Between the kitty
and the dog and your coffee
no wonder you're tired

It's good to have work
but not if you're feeling tired
Just go home early

I separate trash
much of it becomes compost
I burn up the rest

Some I recycle
What trash I can't recycle
I put in the ground

So you don't like Trump
Politics in general
I don't spend time on

Office politics
needed fixing long ago
Show people respect

You don't like Putin
and you don't like 'the Donald'
I'm glad you like me

I'll take your advice
Don't want to 'get you started'
I see the fireball

Think 'Tempus Fugit'
and the time will fly away
No consternation

'kuing sounds playful
More people should start 'kuing
instead of fighting

When I was in school
Miss Kelly was at the desk
in the front office

I spent some time there
waiting for the principal
She was so Irish

She had bright red hair
Always impeccably dressed
A scent I'd die for

Fifteen years at job
Take Social Security
and keep your job too

Make a little more
Pull the pin at sixty-five
Lay back in hammock...

Retire in 5 years?
Sounds like heaven to this gal.
I won’t hold my breath.

Took kids to dinner,
Danori and her boyfriend.
We had a good time.

Except for table
with a horrible lady
browbeating grand kids.

It was just awful-
“Eat your meat or no presents!”
She was a nightmare.

My friend is coming
to help me clean here today.
Keep your fingers crossed.

M & M’s new flavor
coffee nut is really good.
Love coffee flavor.

Speaking of flavors,
ham and beans and some corn bread
for on Xmas Eve.

Hope I can finish
Xmas shopping this weekend.
That would be perfect.

Morning with you nice,
you’re quiet, don’t interrupt
my line of thinking.

Glad you have the dogs,
they are so good for the soul.
Cats are okay too.

I know I’m rambling.
Just some good morning chit-chat
to help pass the days.

Hope you have a day
that is filled with surprises
and holiday cheer.

It’s very quiet
No toads, no crickets, just dogs
and they’re both snoring

It’s 0220
and I’m having a nightcap
Hot cup of green tea

I really like tea
and I really like coffee
Green tea soothes my mood

Coffee cranks me up
when I need a good kick-start
and I like its taste

I’m not sworn to it
Sometimes I leave it it alone
I’m sworn to Salmon!

I’m very fishy
I eat very little meat
Sometimes I’ll have wine

But no other drinks
Basically alcohol-free
It has a purpose

Just not one for me
As a young buck I liked it
Then I went without

I never went back
Maybe saved a little cash
Maybe saved my life

Life to me is new
and it keeps getting newer
My love’s coming home

I like you, Lori
I want you to be happy
So just be happy >>>-----→

Enjoy your Sunday
Enjoy all your company
and all your visits!

I’ll be seeing you
Time for me to crash and burn
Rest well, Miss Lori

Was going to be grouch,
but you said to be happy,
so happy it is.

My friend showed up!
Worked circles around my butt
Ah, no more cob webs!

I shopped some more
and may go again today.
Dennis went with me!

More wrapping to do.
Hope the paper will hold out
and the tags and bows.

This has been so fun!
Great to be getting it done.
I am so pleased.

Dog has a dry eye,
gets gooey snot stuff in it.
Gets drops twice a day.

He is better now,
will need drops for couple months
My poor little dog.

Got him a toy too.
He doesn't know what it is for.
We put treats in it.

Thursday my last day.
Can not wait for Xmas break.
Be back on Jan 3rd.

Of all those days off,
I just get paid for Xmas.
Short check for that month,

Son Sam is coming
on Xmas eve to spend night.
Go home Xmas Day.

His wife will stay home
and look after the dogs.
She sweet to share him.

Wow I just woke up!
I nodded off there a bit.
I didn't know it!

Guess I'll end it here.
You have a great day now, hear?
No wooden nickles.

It's good to ‘see’ you
So happy you changed your mind
and came with a smile

When it comes to work
four hands are better than two
Gets it all done fast

Spent some more money
and the Sheriff went shopping
Sheriff’s get discount?

I like to wrap gifts
I always used to do that
even as a kid

Your dog feeling good
is really good news to hear
Some dry eye has cure

A short week for you
More time for writing haiku
Nah! I’m just joking!

You need your time off
more than you need the money
Everyone’s the same

I put you to sleep?
I must really be boring
My dogs do that too

I talk to them both
and suddenly they’re yawning
Linny’s not like that

She talks more than me
and I’m told I talk a lot
I’ve been missing that

But not much longer
She needs to behave herself
so she’ll make parole

It’s complicated
but she’s doing much better
She’s a tough woman

Always been that way
but she’s also very sweet
and very loving

Time to close this ‘ku
It’s been good talking to you
You’re nice, Miss Lori >>>-----→

I'm in the dog house
I didn't get my 'Ku in
Now I'm rushin' to.

see what I can say
in 45 minutes, 'k?
here we go hold on.

Dog got in the trash
got a surprise this morning
Oh my clean carpet!!!

Wear maroon to work
it is Spirit Week this week
have fun dressing up.

Almost done shopping
few more trips to get groceries.
then I'll be all set.

I'm so excited!
Love it when the family comes.
Love those grandbabies!

Work will be hectic
lots to do at last minute.
Drives me so crazy.

Bored to tears then
Nellie bar the door, it pours.
Scrambling to get done.

Then when I hurry
I will make little mistakes
that cost me some time.

It will be short week.
I'm off on Friday woo who!
C'mon vacation!

Hey 15 minutes!
I'm ahead of schedule,
wow look at me go!

May knock off early
so I can hit the shower.
and not rush so much.

Playing "Beat the Clock"
is kind of fun for a change,
not for all the time.

We might get some snow
But only little flurries,
Real cold on Christmas.

Looks like I did it!
You have the best day ever.
To you and Linny!

If they had their way
MY house would be their dog house
Sometimes it is theirs

Winston in the trash?
I thought that was a cat’s gig
Today was trash day

Picked up at the road
one-eighth of a mile from house
early Wednesday ‘morn

“Spirit week” is it…
My truck is kind of maroon
Very spirited

Late shoppers in rush
I stay far away from them
as is possible!

Grandbabies grow fast
Love them up as best you can
They’ll soon move away

Short work week is good
when you have so much to do
I have so little

I like it that way
But soon we’ll both be busy
and I’ll welcome it

Had a good rain here
Maybe more coming tonight
Warmer and humid

I like what you said
about “Nellie bar the door”
That’s very old stuff!

You’re showing your age
to be over ‘twenty-one’
Here they say “Katie”

Hurried mistakes eh?
Why not slow your effort down
Tortoise and the Hare

Enjoy the short week
Don’t stress out over the ‘ku
Family comes first

If Christmas is cold
Put another log on fire
and get my slippers!

“Looks like I did it!
You have the best day ever!”
To you and Sheriff!

I'm a sleepy head
my hair is every which way
I look so scary

Coffee and the pets
have got my blood all moving
I am awake now

Pile under tree grows
lots of presents for me
I already got mine

Got what I wanted
and put it under the tree
Then Dennis bought more

I wouldn't have bought
all that other stuff for me
had I known he would.

I feel very spoiled
the biggest package is mine
I don't have a clue

Bought gifts for my work
These cute little nutcrackers
just decorations.

It is not that much
It is the thought that will count.
Work with good people.

Only 5 more days!
Four more until my son comes
I just cannot wait.

Been a long time since
I have felt this good mentally
Thanks in part to you.

Finding my awesome
seems silly but was profound
Try hard to find it.

Can't help but think some
about you and your Linny
happy and sad too.

I am excited
for the two of you love birds
getting together.

Next year will be great
the two of you by the tree
under mistletoe.

Merry Christmas friend
may this day be warm and bright
thoughts of her be light.

I look scary too
Long hair in a ponytail
Looks like horses’ ass

It’s all in my mood
Sometimes coffee sometimes tea
I like tea at night

Santa’s sleigh comes quick
We’d open one gift on Eve
others Christmas day

Nice to get a gift
One that you really wanted
Warm fuzzy feeling

It’s fun to be spoiled
even when you spoil yourself
and someone else pays

You’re my friend, Lori
I’m happy to have known you
and that Miss Pinky

Finding your “awesome”
is finding more of yourself
...and you are “awesome”

“Can't help but think some
about you and your Linny
happy and sad too”

We’re near the end now
We did these things to ourselves
We both paid the price

Got together young
then went our separate ways
and got back again

I’ve always loved her
No one else ever worked out
It’s the same with her

We just got stupid
We’re both much smarter these days
You learn or you don’t

She likes to write too
I could post one of her poems
I love to read her

Do you think I should?
I don’t see the harm in it
I’ll leave you a clue

“Next year will be great
the two of us by the tree
under mistletoe”

“Merry Christmas friend
may this day be warm and bright”
...and “all a good night”

…..See ya

‘Ku in a coma
I cannot keep from yawning
Oh c’mon coffee!

The house looks just great.
One last shopping trip today,
then I am ready.

Holly is jolly,
I’m pleased with decorations.
Oh, c’mon Christmas!

No school for two weeks!
I get a birthday party.
A great vacation.

Had to take a nap
My, that is so much better.
I was so sleepy.

No need to be up
so early in the morning,
3a bad habit.

Might cook beans today.
They are best the second day,
I will have cornbread.

That makes me hungry
Oatmeal raisin cookie, yummm.
Think I will have one.

Boy that hit the spot
They are my favorite ones.
My mom made the best.

Daylight is burning
No more time to ‘Ku with you
Have a real great day.

The big day is here!
May all your wishes come true!
Thinking about you

It’s a cool day here
I’ve been enjoying it all
Peaceful and quiet

The two-lane is so silent
you can hear the deer hooves trot
without any fear

I thought I might write
I’m missing her so today
But without the pain

There’s a difference
when you know where your love is
versus not knowing

You have a birthday
near Christmastime or New Years?
Lot’s of extra gifts!

Aww!  You took a nap?
I put you to sleep again?
I must be a bore!

I’m always up late
I sleep about six hours
I think too damn much!

I should bake cookies
I might learn a thing or two
I don’t bake that much

Bran muffins with fruit
and of course, cornbread is good
Could make some today

Guess I’ll sign off now
I’ll feed myself and the dogs
We’ll eat at the trough!

...See ya!

It is 3 degrees.
The ground is still white with snow.
Winter has arrived.

Went to a movie
That was quite a treat for me,
The Greatest Showman.

I enjoyed it lots,
it was a fine musical.
Got out at 9p.

Went straight to my bed
and it was lights out for me.
Up at half past four.

Snoozing by 5a
After writing a few words
Slept in late ‘til 8

Then again ‘til 9
now I’m up and dressed proper
in my Christmas clothes.

No makeup as yet
I may not leave the warm house
where no shine is fine.

3 days ‘til b-day
I hope some people show up
at bar named Chucks.

Think I’ll tie one on
laugh ‘till I shed some tears
and get real silly.

Your Rotts murder cats
I hate it when dogs do that
Our coon hounds will too.

I will not cast stone.
My cat will murder things too
that is way of life.

“Three degrees,” you say
“When Will I See You Again”
‘A good ‘girlie group’

They’re still going strong
More than fifty years later
Good music won’t die

I play some guitar
and I like to sing ballads
Makes my two dogs howl

Speaking of my Rotts
I think you misunderstood
They grew up with cats

They’re all quite playful
No ‘Cat-a-cide going on
Cease indignation >>>---→

Big dogs have respect
Some have been trained to play ‘rough’
My own are not ‘trained’

I ‘taught’ them my way
To obey simple commands
like ‘kill’, ‘bite’, or ‘maim’ (Are you laughing?)

Really, they’re mellow
Both have personality
Both are ‘baritones’

End of dog story
I hope your mind is at ease
Cat is still alive

My sick fantasy
was all I was telling you
Happens on gray days

All my days are gray
when I look in the mirror
to comb my thick hair

A sign of the times
Each one of them have been earned
So I feel quite proud

At least I’m not bald
though it’s what’s inside that counts
This I know is true

I just play too much
and say many silly things
It keeps me laughing

Well, ‘Happy Birthday’!
“Tie one on” tight as you like
But stay out of jail!

...See ya!

Beg Rotts' forgiveness
for jumping to conclusions.
I'm a hound person.

Back to you and book.
Your love story is unique.
many in lock-up.

Not as long as you.
The strength of your bond inspires.
You have the poems.

They tell the story,
Chronicle the ups and downs,
show how you coped.

The story has me.
It would captivate others
think 'bout it okay?

Might get my nails done
might write introspective too
hard telling with me.

Got to go stoke fire
nearly seven hope for coals
take care now, bye bye

All is forgiven
The Rotts want to say, “ruff-ruff”
Sounds more like, “rough-rough”

Yes, there’s a story
Truth is stranger than fiction
We’ve talked about that

We missed out on much
I’ve had the chance to catch up
But she’s spent more time

Situations changed
But I always loved my girl
She always knew that

I write her each day
I needed her to stay strong
Unbelievable

Still, it’s really true
Every single day I write
Using “Jpay” mail

She cannot use it
Only I can use Jpay
She must use “snail-mail”

I’ll give it some thought
I think she’d like to do that
I’m certain she would

What about my nails?
And what about your story?
You’ve much to tell too!

Don’t let me keep you
Others are counting on you
to keep them toasty!

...See ya, Lori Rhoden

Oh cr@p! I’m 60!
I knew this day would soon come:
officially old.

My body feels it
But my head says I’m 40,
I look 50ish.

It could be much worse
I could look 70ish
and be much fatter.

Dumpy and frumpy
kinda the norm for my age
I can live with that.

Even the gray hair
and the crow’s feet at my eyes
don’t bother me much.

I don’t use hair dye
or wrinkle free facial cream.
Soap and water works.

I do know how to
use lots and lots of make-up.
Shine up pretty good.

Got make-up brushes
from Santa Clause in my sock.
Do better job now.

New clothes for tonight
that I got for my Christmas
I can hardly wait.

Got a smart phone too,
for my Birthday from Dennis,
up with the times now.

We go out tonight
I get schmit faced for sure.
Have to be careful.

Sometimes I cannot
hold my alcohol too well.
Don’t want to pass out.

Hoping for good time
where I laugh my assets off
and it makes me cry.

Hope he can suck up
and have a good time with me,
he has been so down.

I know he will try.
He will have his friends there too.
Try not to worry.

Well that is all there is,
my birthday is the big news.
You have good day too.
