Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2017-10-20 11:52 AM

I am one of those
for whom taking a compliment
has taken many years of practice.
I had a voice inside my head
that echoed each kind word
with, “They wouldn’t say that
if they knew what a loser you are.”
I could not see myself
in their words.
Over the years
I began to see
more of their appreciation,
and hear less echoes.
But it wasn’t until one person,
who was an awesome woman
in her own right,
made me look her in the eye
as she insisted I was awesome,
that I believed.
That acknowledgement
set off a chain reaction of thoughts
that ever so kindly changed
my perception of me.
I had no idea just how heavy
those echoes were,
until they were gone.
I finally had a concept
that in my mind
was not diminished
by human weaknesses.
Awesome is not synonymous
with perfection.
It does not have to be
bestowed upon you,
we are all born awesome.
Taking on your own
sense of awesomeness,
gives you a greater
ability to appreciate
the awesomeness of others.
The shift was subtle,
but the sense of lightness
was unmistakable.
I embraced it.
And it embraced me.

How sweet Jerry! You make it hard to stay humble. That was an awesome comment by the way. ~L

I'm smiling while sending hugs, many of us have felt that very same way at times in our lives....it's nice to know, you love who is inside you.  (smile)

Yes we are all born especially awesome! Perfectly imperfect human beings. I keep forgetting and have to remind myself. But it really has improved my attitude. ~L
