In the arms of the afternoon
I will cast my cares away
and rest my weary
underneath the red maple tree.
The autumn breeze plays
in and around the clouds
coaxing out spits and spats
of misting rain.
I am content in the overcast
counting my blessings.
The smell of damp leaves
fills my nose with
itís earthy perfume.
I daydream about baking
things that havenít
seen the oven
since last year.
I close my eyes,
lick my lips
and snuggle down deeper
into my jacket.
I am excited and impatient
for the season to begin
to turn the leaves to color
and scatter them about.
Iím waiting for the chill
that begs for hot cocoa
or hot apple cider.
The chill that lets you
see your breath
in the early morning.
Iím ready to greet
the season with all
my fuzzy warm fall finery.
I feel very blessed
to be here.

Reading your words I realized I was feeling the exact same way concerning the coming of fall. I felt the same as your poem,  but I could never put together my words as perfect as you have here. Thank you for this beauty!

I'm really happy you could relate so well to this poem. I love it when people tell me "I took them 'there'." It is nice to have something to look forward to. Thanks for your wonderful comment. ~L

Beautiful interpretations Lori Rhoden, natural and crisp like long-fallen leaves and air that cleanses every breath.

I think you're a poet[ess].
