No time for dreams,
reality has taken over
the situation.
The bucket list
isnít going to happen
because I donít
care enough
to insist.
Dreams donít have to
be big to be important.
Though for a long time
I thought it so.
And is often the case,
our dreams have always
been before us in the everyday.
Some of us fail to see
or think ourselves worthy
of a lofty goal or calling.
Others seem born knowing
which way to go.
Poetry has been
a part of me
for long as I could write.
But not until I was fifty
Did I dare to call myself
a poet.
And only then did I give myself
to the joys of sharing
and reading my poetry.
I even put together a book.
But I have never been
bitten by the bug of ambition.
To be a recognizable fish
in a little blue pond
is good enough for me.

Although I post my poems here and there, I really never admitted to those lofty dreams. Maybe you are correct about not being "worthy." Eh, still I love it when people read me.

I've never thought of myself as a "poet" Lori Rhoden, but I've always been pleased if someone else thought of me as such...and said so. It hasn't happened often, but I don't wait for it either. I've found that responses to 'poetry' on forums are relative to how a person perceives you personally. My first experience with this concept was in 1998 on an old "single page" site. It was curious then and remains so today.

Jerry if you know in your heart you will write poetry even if no one else reads it, then you are a poet. If reading or having your poetry read gives you a thrill unlike anything else then you are a poet. Publishing a book doesn't make you a poet, putting your heart on paper does. ~L

Blusey,
I hear ya. I have other places I'm "known" besides this site...there is the local coffee shop and my parent's retirement home.
Calling myself a poet was a big deal for me, it was like coming out of the closet. ~L

pinkylilbritches,

dreams are for the young and young at heart, by my age we're supposed to start livin' the dream. I just forgot to set poverty as a goal. My bad. LOL. Dream Big or Go Home and dream anyway you want... ~L
