Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Adjective: persnickety.
Requiring a particularly precise or careful approach.
Ah yes, my yellow cat comes to mind
as she lays across my legs
absent mindedly flexing her claws
in and out of my thigh.
Every morning she comes in
and makes a bee line for her saucer.
Then her next destination is me.
One might think she comes
out of feelings of affection.
I think not in the least.
She carries an air of entitlement
as she does her demanding dance,
kneading one leg with her front paws
my other leg with the back ones.
She wants her ears and back scratched.
And she wants them scratched just so.
Do it wrong and you’ll get a warning nip.
Ignore the warning and she’ll draw blood.
She purrs so loud and innocent.
Looking so cute doing her “scratch me” dance.
All the while leaving bloody pin pricks in my leg.
She wants the base of her tail scratched.
She lets you know when you are doing it right
by sticking her tail straight up
then curling it over like a candy cane.
After a short bit of that she wants
The length of her back done,
Up twice against the grain and smooth it down.
Now for the ears, her real reason for being here.
I grab them both, start to scratch, her eyes close.
Soon she leans in to one side or the other,
I scratch harder and she purrs louder.
If I have a Q-tip handy she is really in heaven.
I hit the sweet spot inside her ear
and well she looks like we all do
when we hit the sweet spot with a Q-tip.
When she has had enough
she shakes her head, flinging drool.
I know we’re done when I take my hand away
and she doesn’t reach for it with a nail
to pull it to her ear (with or without a nip.)
Contented, she melts across my lap
to take a little snooze,
complaining loudly if disturbed.
She is so persnickety I suppose I should be flattered
that only  I will do to fit the bill for her scratching needs.
But she is a merciless taskmaster, a tyrant of teeth.
So while I have her ears in hand and her eyes are closed
I pull her close and kiss her nose,
because I know she hates that…
and it is the only chance I get.

This was written so vibrantly I found myself
sitting alongside you and observing you and
your precious cat doing your thing. Animals!
They can forever and a day get to us. Enjoyed.

Welcome to my daily routine! She hits me up for a trip to ear Nirvana at least twice a day. I'm such a sucker for abuse! But you can tell it makes her feel really good and besides, other than that we really don't have much interaction unless I sneak up on her when she is sleeping and pet her. ~L

With two dogs and a Tomcat, I can appreciate the loving abuse. Collectively, it's about 220 pounds of 'loving abuse'!

Yes the dog gets in his licks too! (pun intended) His toe nails of joy when I come home make for an interesting dance we do. Thanks for the read! ~L
