Fair to middlin' of nowhere

When they went so far
as to say, “what about Mt. Rushmore”,
that’s where I drew the line
and decided they lost their minds.
When they miss the point on purpose
just to be argumentative,
it really strikes a nerve.
First and foremost, statues are erected
for a specific reason.
They honor a person for something.
That statue then marks a time and place in history.
If as a country our feelings change
about the deed that person was honored for
and later consider it to be dishonorable,
then where or why or how that statue stands
should be reconsidered.
They should never be hidden or destroyed.
They should be memorialized in such a way
that puts the Country’s change of heart
in perspective.
I don’t understand what is so hard about that.

They want to change our country, Lori, and they are slowly, but surely making progress. I fear for Amricia.

Doesn't make sense. Maybe more should be included in historical markings to reference other great individuals.

Thought provoking write and situation, for sure.

Yes Jerry "They" want to change America. America is always in a state of change, that is part of the human condition. The trick is to try to make those changes for the good.~L

Thanks Miscellanea,
Yes, I think this situation needs some more thought. People are just getting plain stupid out there. ~L

They don't like some statues but isn't it also the name on that statue...some have gone so far to say it is in the name and history of a name...will they want to change the name of Washington DC?  How about Washington State?
