I've Been In Hell, Ever Since

The last time I Listened
to God,
I gave a soul
to a small protoplasmic lump
in the womb of a woman.

- - -

Ah-h-h . . .
so this is awareness.
This feeling, this knowing . . .
I am.

Whatever that means.

He asked me to do this
for Him. That it was
important, that this one
was special, it's time
was now. And it was time
for me, too.

I don't remember a lot
aboutthe womb. Mostly
the constant barrage of
weird sounds the body makes;
the never ending drumming
of the heart, doing its thing;
and the constant pressures
and pains the woman
who carried me, caused,
in her act of being.

Until she tried to kill me.

It began as a longer than normal
squeeze from all directions
More pressure exerted,
more of everything,
except for a seeming lack
of concern for how I felt.
And it got worse.
Waves of immense pressure,
staggering pain,
with increasing frequency,
starting at my toes,
rolling down my body,
stretching me,
driving me deeper and deeper
into her lower groin
which seemed to get narrower
and narrower,
until it felt like my head
was being distorted
and crushed.

Until . . . it's a boy!
I heard someone shout.
Intense, blinding light
made me squeeze shut, my eyes . . .
I Screamed, and screamed!

I've been in Hell
ever since.

Jimmy, a very unique way of describing childbirth. Fantastic! Can't say more.

jwesley- it is the best poem (the only one, in fact) on childbirth I've ever seen... not that there are that many such poems out there!

Blues . . .

Life for me, from conception to now, 73.5 years later, with all it's ups and downs is a perspective I wouldn't change a thing about.  It's truly a gift, and mine hasn't been seriously defective.  Oh sure, ". . . if I could go back . . . knowing what . . . blah, blah, blah . . . ": but then, anybody can follow a script; where's the mystic in that?

And where are the memories the loves, the heartaches, the pain and the pleasure that made the road such a enigma.

I could go on but basically that's "what I really think."

my heart, my friend, as it's always been . . .
