they told me I was alarming
when I asked them why
they looked at me
heads slightly bowed
and said
because you don’t need anyone
I gave that impression
in my younger days
macho man that I was
I am still alone
but not quite as macho

it is fascinating how the impression others have of us when we are young, colors who we try to be as we grow up. ~L
