Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2017-06-25 07:00 AM

Four-thirty in the morning
and the cursor is tapping its foot
waiting for me to begin.
Rifling through my thoughts,
I find it is slim pickin’s.
Oh, I still have the memory
of the wasp stinging
the side of my face,
clear as the welt on my temple.
I haven’t forgotten my
very berry cream cheese crepe
from IHOP I had for supper last night
that just made my mouth water
all over again.
I could tell all about how I got lucky
last night.
But nobody wants to hear about that
sort of thing.
I’m ready for a refill
on my coffee,
and I still got nothin’ to write about.
Even Winston’s snoring is boring
this morning.
It’s nearly five-thirty
not long before it turns six
and I start walking.
I’m running out of time
and words.
Oh, it did rain last night.
I would have slept through it,
if it weren’t for Winston
pawing at the bed
to let me know there was thunder.
The cat wants to come inside.
The cat wants to go back outside.
It is only sixty degrees.
Perfect.
I won’t sweat.
The sky is streaked with gray,
looks like it could rain some more.
Maybe I should take an umbrella,
or just wear my rain hat
and a jacket.
Decisions, decisions.
It used to be so simple;
to walk
or not to walk.
Now I have to make
a weather related
fashion statement.
Or I could just wait,
because it is so cool,
until the clouds pass.
Guess it’s time
to get the ole’ girl in gear.
Old T-shirt and shorts
and my old tennis shoes
and I’m ready to go.
Winston knows the routine
and starts dancing
when I put my shoes on.
One last sip of coffee
and we’re gone.
I just wish I could have come up with
something to write about
this morning.

You write your life, that's quite enough, Lori.

It may be boring to you, Lori, but when you write about it, it isn't boring to us.

Well that is good to know Jerry. I'll take your word for it. It was kind of fun rattling on about nothing. Thank you for your continuing support of my work. ~L

Good Gosh Woman!  If you can't find something to write about, write misc. thoughts, or unconnected randomness, or something terrible - not this balderdash that makes us yearn for the next line even before we've finished the last. Excitement is too trying on my old nerves, and gosh, Jerry's older than me, he probably can't sleep after reading this wonderful piece!!

Have Mercy, won't ya, huh!!

Yes Yann, in the morning and if I was smart I would walk again in the evening too, after it cools off. Thanks for commenting! ~L

Pinkapickle,
I'm glad you enjoy rattling around my old noggin. The gang seems to agree with you so I will continue to write along those lines until I run it into the ground. ~L
