Tightly clinched in pain or stress
A gentle touch or soft caress
Tender pats matched with a smile
A warm handshake that will beguile

Precise enough to throw a pitch
Or nimbly sew the finest stitch
Skilled enough to create art
Or operate upon a heart

Strong enough to wield a club
Or gently give a soothing rub
Hard enough to give a slap
Or soft enough to gently tap

Pluck a thorn and pull a weed
Then plant a tiny flower seed
Lift a pen to write a book
Bait a bright sharp fishing hook

Calmly touch to ease a fear
Wipe away a hurt one’s tear
Arrange a bouquet in a vase
Speak to the deaf with fluid grace

Warmly tucked into a glove
Holding another that they love
But blessed of all these gifts so grand
Is offering a helping hand
